Russia and Tajikistan agreed to develop logistics. How will this affect trade between countries?

17/07/2024

The Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan Sherali Kabir and the head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov said that both countries are ready to continue fruitful cooperation in the field of trade and logistics, as well as implement new initiatives that are aimed at strengthening economic ties.

Trade turnover between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan has reached a record, exceeding $1.7 billion. Further development of logistics will only benefit the business of both countries, and can increase it several more times.

What transport is used to deliver goods between countries?

Most often these are cars. Loaded trucks from Russia to Tajikistan go through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan.

In this way, they mainly transport food, agricultural raw materials, wood, metals, paper products, chemical products, as well as cotton, yarn and light industry products.

Motor transport is very popular among logistics companies, as it is cheap, the routes are known, and there are no problems with logistics. The only negative is the long passage of border crossings. For example, in summer the cargo crosses the borders just a little bit. Autumn and winter - 2-3 days.

Thus, a consignment of goods is delivered from Russia to Tajikistan in 8-15 days.

Plus - in cars. Basically, all products are transported both to Russia and in the opposite direction by Tajik companies. Their logistics services are cheaper, and given that the goods are also transported in the opposite direction, the trucks almost never move empty.

In second place in popularity among companies is the delivery of goods by air. Goods are transported both to Tajikistan and back in Russia, both directly and through third countries, for example. Turkey.

Large cargo is delivered this way. For example, if the weight of the cargo is up to 6 tons, then it flies directly on a narrow-body aircraft. If the cargo weighs more, it is sent by plane with a carrying capacity of up to 20 tons via Istanbul.

By delivery time: the cargo will reach the country directly or in the opposite direction in a day, through Turkey - in 2-3 days.

The advantages of this method, of course, are the speed of delivery. The disadvantages are the price and the fact that not all types of cargo can be transported by air. Basically, this method is chosen by companies from Russia. Tajik companies most often send goods by road or by rail.

By rail, cargo transits through Kazakhstan. Then they go through Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan, depending on which city in Tajikistan they are going to.

On average, goods travel by rail from 14 to 20 days. The downside is that there are few covered cars on the Russia-Tajikistan shoulder. But most often companies do not use railways because of prices. They are high, and if deadlines allow, goods are sent by truck.

How will logistics between countries change?

It is still difficult to say what actions will be taken. But in general, if the passage of goods through border checkpoints becomes faster, then the number of trucks that deliver goods between countries may increase significantly.

Everyone is also waiting for the construction of new railway lines, which will help speed up the delivery of goods between countries.

Air delivery can be reduced in cost by the number of aircraft. But given the crisis in aircraft development, this will not happen soon.

Conclusion

Relations between Russia and Tajikistan are constantly developing. Trade turnover is increasing.

Cooperation between countries in the field of trade and logistics will help businesses earn additional profits and provide citizens of the countries with quality products.
